1st class modern big band jazz-Caribbean fusion. Some of the densest and most inventive arrangements I've heard, and I know my big band and the panorama of jazz from 20's rag and hot jazz till post-bop, Threatgill, fusions and recent academic-like work.This working of the orchestra is densely packed with motivic content and melodic invention in almost every voice (instrument) in the arrangements.But it is still so fun!Cause the music is also crafted and developed with the syntax of the Caribbean dance music that we can find in Socates Garcia's country of origin (Dominican Republic, with the various modes of merengue, the salsa, the bachata and even some more afro-centric/syncretic rythms like salve and palos) to gain their flexibility and focus.Great impros and performances.Excellent recording. Can hear the details of the instrumentation in a good sound system.Great product.
