Tenor saxophonist Zoot Sims(1925-85) recorded this excellent quartet studio album for BETHLEHEM in New York on June 7, 1960 with Dave McKenna(piano); George Tucker(bass) & Dannie Richmond(drums).A bonus track was recorded live in New York on November 21, 1959 with Sims(tenor sax); Dave McKenna(piano); Bill Crow(bass) & Ed Shaughnessy(drums). The 14 tracks from the 1960 session(including 6 alternative takes) are all standards from the swing era with Zoot in fine form superbly supported by the rhythm section. The original 8-track 'Down Home' LP was once selected by British critics as among the 200 essential post-war modern jazz albums and this expanded 77-minute CD reissue shouldn't be missed by fans of Zoot Sims.
