This 1978 crim-on-the-run tale has George Peppard breaking out of a Louisiana prison in an effort to get to California and his critically injured son. With a beagle puppy under his arm and a bulldog cop Neville Brand in hot pursuit, this Peppard directed and financed adventure is fertile ground for the music of Bill Conti. It's high energy, pulsating stuff and parts of it sounding a lot like his earlier "Rocky" score but still loaded with enough variety and fun and energy to stand alone. There are three terrific songs composed by Conti with lyrics by the ever reliable Norman Gimbel and sung by the "Rocky" vocalists. Whilst most of the music is bouncy and disco influenced (remember this is the 70's!) there are some really nice gentle moments with the instrumental version of "Come With Me Now" (the love theme) sounding quite lovely. Thanks to Intrada for releasing this very worthwhile score written by one of the most enjoyable of film composers and allowing us the pleasure of listening to the music from this rather obscure movie.
