This book was a perfect read ❤. Having recently gone on this journey with my boyfriend, I could relate to many of the feelings and experiences Mariela shared with us. He and I had searched for his birth family for years. Finally, with the help of an investigator, he was reunited with his mom after 30 years... and learned he has an older sister. He too grew up never knowing a blood relative or whether or not he resembled his mom; ideas that others just take for granted knowing. We flew in to Medellin, where we experienced that incredible moment of seeing his birth family gathered at the airport waiting for his arrival and the welcoming hugs we both recieved once we had our luggage; we visited his orphanage; we became familiar with Colombian culture; we ate so much delicious food; and we were given so much family love! And yes, we did all of this with our language barriers, which was definitely frustrating at times.While each individuals story will always have some differences, this book covered a lot of the same things that our journey did and also many of the feelings my boyfriend has felt throughout his life. I am so happy that she took the time to put her thoughts on paper! I couldn't wait for the mailman to deliver me my book ?I read it all in one day ?. Great job!
