Book ReviewWhile I cannot disagree with the inclusion of the writers who appear in this book, I looked in vain for current, nationally-respected Native American writers. To quote Louise Erdrich in an early Vinz/Tammaro publication, “ In the light of enormous loss, they must tell the untold stories of contemporary survivors, while protecting and celebrating the cores of cultures left in the wake of European invasion.” Elizabeth Cook-Lynn and Vine Deloria, Jr. are several of the midwestern writers who have done exactly that. The somewhat cozy titles of the Vinz/Tammaro publications (inheriting the land and Imagining Home) disregard the impact that immigration and subjugation continue to have on our Native peoples.
