When I saw no reviews yet posted on what has become one of my all-time favorite CDs, I knew I had to step up to the plate with this summaryof "Out of the Woodwork" by Beaucoup Blue.I had first come across this father-son duo playing live opening for Johnny Winter at the Colonial Theater in Phoenixville, PA and was immediately struck by their "genuineness." It's the whole package: rousing slide Dobro work and gritty/soulful vocals by father Dave Mowry, and strong rhythmic acoustic guitar work and powerful, crystal clear vocals by son Adrian. The song selection, and quantity of great music here, beautifully mastered by Philly's finest, Jim Salamone, is simply staggering. There is no "filler material" here: every tune stands on it's own, with original works x 3, and unique and powerful covers of great tunes by Bob Dylan, John Lee Hooker, Jimmy Reed, Robert Johnson, Little Walter, and Sam Phillips. In every single case, I can say that the cover arrangements instill new beauty into each of the works that both pay tribute and enhance the originals. I could write a page on each and every song.... but you're looking for guidance. If you are exploring these artists for thie first time, I would start with this, their first CD, recorded in 2003. I promise you that most will shortly thereafter go after their subsequent library of great music! These guys are the real deal, and the quality of this recording is monumental. My strongest, 5 star "BUY" recommendation! (and I am a guy who takes this review stuff seriously....no "grade inflation" going on here, I mean it!)
