I was pleasantly surprised by this book for children. Part story, part information book; it is ideal for any young children in families that own a cat or are considering getting one.The girl in the story wants a cat, but the rest of her family are less enthusiastic, so she creates a scrap book of cat information, and slowly educates herself and her family about them. The book sets a good example for children – the girl has to work overcome barriers, but also has to sensibly weigh up the pros and cons and decide if the choice is truly right for her.The book contains useful information, told simply and clearly. It includes guidance on how to look after the cat, and how to behave towards it. I particularly like the way the book doesn’t hide the responsibilities of owning a cat. It’s all presented in a way that is engaging, and will appeal to children. It’s a relatively thin book, and may seem a little expensive for the size; but the royalties are going towards Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.
