This was a good story, especially for early teens. From the picture, I was expecting a bit of darker story, but was pleasantly surprised by the innocence of the world and the creatures in the story. The descriptive writing of the surroundings and characters was good and painted a picture in my mind. I fell in love with the dragons and trolls and was intrigued by the shape shifters. However, I would have loved to have had more backstory on the relatives and the main character. I'm really hoping to see more backstory in the next book. Also, there were a few scenes that cut away to the relatives that could use a bit of extra detail as I was confused if they were the mother or siblings. I would recommend getting someone to be an editor for future books as I did notice some errors that could have been avoided by perhaps a second or third set of eyes. All in all, I enjoyed reading this story and look forward to the next book in the series. I recommend it to others!
