Almost a year on since the acclaimed Jesus Songs mini-LP, The Broken Family Band are set to release Welcome Home, Loser on 14th February. Recorded throughout the summer of 2004, as with their previous work, Welcome Home, Loser was conceived at The Sick Room in the middle of nowhere... in Norfolk. The LP features 14 songs about sarcasm, trust, moderation and a lady called Black Wendy. Owen Turner from Magoo engineered and the rest of Magoo performed on it, as did their good friend Timothy Victor. But mostly it was the hardcore Broken Family Band kicking back with the goats and the pigs and the chickens and the cats and the dog. It seems like Welcome Home, Loser is The Broken Family Band s darkest work yet. "I write the words and I wanted to exorcise some demons," explains Adams. "We started to feel like we were pigeon-holing ourselves as a jangly country band and the reaction to that was to get all the dark shit out. Having said that, there is some joy in there. No-one's miserable all the time." As for the title, Adams grins: "It s a reference to a friend of mine, who'd just come back from the other side of the world, having failed miserably in love."
