Backtrack Blues Band - Way Back HomeMy first exposure to this Florida based band which has been around for over 35 years and has a leaning towards Chicago style blues. Right off the top there is a lot to like here. Ten tracks including 6 originals and 4 covers all in an uptempo classic Chicago blues style. The covers are Your Funeral, My Trail; Checking On My Baby; Nobody But You and Baby Please Don't Go but the original tracks are strong as well. The harp work here was very appealing to me as well as the rough and ready vocal work of Sonny Charles who plays that great harp as well. The instrumentation by the entire band I found to be tight and enjoyable, complementing the tone and style of the tracks very well. This sounds like a real band playing together and makes me want to see these guys live. Victor Wainwright guests on piano here as well which enhances the ensemble feel. This is well played electric blues Chicago style and I recommend this disc for anyone who likes that style of music. My only thought to improve on this disc would be to have a track or two that provide a different tempo as most seem to have a similar feel and pace. A slow blues would break things up nicely but overall, well done!
